HuckleBerry’s Young Learner’s Program is a project-based experience for early learners. We understand that children learn best by doing, by investigating, and by having the freedom and support to learn at the rate that is comfortable for them. At these ages, learning needs to be tactile, engaging, and highly differentiated. HuckleBerry has been using our small class hands-on approach to learning since 2007, and we are excited to begin our second year of offering this classroom style to our youngest learners!
Our program will focus on:
Social-emotional development – emotional intelligence, this includes fostering a positive sense of self, identifying emotions, initiating peer play, focusing attention, following rules, managing their impulses, and resolving social conflict.
Reading in context and out of context will also be developed using the augmented reality Letters Alive program, where letters will come alive in 3D format for our learners! Letters alive Plus is an award-winning supplemental reading kit that incorporates evidence-based best practices to teach letters, letter sounds, word building, and sentence building. This phonics program is presented within a 3D augmented reality world filled with animals, tying science in with literacy instruction. Children hear, see, touch, build, and speak while enjoying a fun experience that is proven to boost reading proficiency and knowledge retention.
Spelling and vocabulary will be developed using the augmented reality Letters Alive program, as well as the Letters Alive journal to help reinforce letters and letter sounds, proper letter formation, and encourage creative writing. We will play the games: Kaboom, Roll to Rhyme, Red Light Green Light – Punctuation edition, Pay the Toll, Sequence, Sherlock, and Sight Word Space Station. There will be indoor and outdoor scavenger hunts to strengthen word recognition and writing races.
