Note:   This afternoon class starts at 11:45, but Young Learners can join us at 11:15 when our lunch starts!

Fall: Life Science and the Five Senses.

Winter: Earth and Physical Science.

Spring: Space and Simple Machines

Fall:

Science Experimentors is science with young learners in mind! We will encourage young learners to think “outside the box” and prove their thinking through hands-on and engaging learning experiences. In the fall, we will be exploring the five senses and life sciences. When learning about the five senses, we will be exploring what it would be like to have limited senses by simulating being blind and/or deaf, and learning about the life of Helen Keller. For our life sciences unit, we will be growing our own plants and learning about the parts of a plant and its life cycle.   Join us as we enjoy a hands-on experience of science!

Winter:

Science Experimentors is science with young learners in mind! We will encourage young learners to think “outside the box” and prove their thinking through hands-on and engaging learning experiences. In the winter, we will be exploring earth and physical science. In these units, we will discuss the water cycle and the states of matter by using different experiments where we can watch the water cycle happen within our classroom! We will also discuss natural and manmade resources and how our planet is affected by overuse of these resources.

Spring:

Science Experimentors is science with young learners in mind! We will encourage young learners to think “outside the box” and prove their thinking through hands-on and engaging learning experiences. In the spring, we will be exploring space and simple machines. We will explore the moon phases by becoming moons ourselves! We will also create a system of levers and pulleys and other simple machines to try to create ways to move an object across the room.

About Allison:

Allison Walton is so excited to join the HuckleBerry teaching staff this year! She began her teaching career in Beijing, China, teaching English to high school students for two years. Upon her return, she taught elementary school in Ohio for six years, specializing in project-based instruction and discovery learning. Her favorite project was a Dinosaur Museum, where her second grade students wrote nonfiction research papers and created dinosaurs out of paper-mache. Allison and her husband moved to the Los Angeles area in 2011, and has spent the last six years raising their two daughters who both attend classes at HuckleBerry. Allison enjoys writing short stories, watching teenage high school dramas, taking family portraits, and listening to Korean pop music.
