Ages:   4-6

Class Fees:

Spring:  10 weeks:  $242

Using monthly themes, Concepts are introduced and integrated in activities during large and small group time, and center activity time.    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this class has been completely redesigned by Deb Baltau!   Classes will be conducted LIVE ONLINE starting at 11:15.   Our Live session will last approximately 35 minutes, and then students will have a series of activities to complete on the SeeSaw learning system throughout the week!  A kit will be supplied for the crafts and activities that are designed to go with the Live Online portion of the class.  Deb will also be interacting with the students 1:1 throughout the week through the SeeSaw application, where they will be able to record their voices, take pictures of their work, play learning games, and so much more!   Join us for wonderful fun adventure where your children will be able to continue to see their friends, but not have tooooo much online time :)

Young Learners Winter

Reading and Writing

Integrating Literature with Math and Science, we will build on our phonetic awareness skills, practice sounding out words, and using journals to write and reinforce word recognition.  We’ll also learn about the roles of the Authors, Illustrator and Characters while re-enacting stories in a variety of creative forms. We will read about the consequences of giving a little pig a pancake, then use that as an investigation into pancakes! Making and eating them with our
amazing math measurement skills!
We will also work on building sentences, telling a story through illustrations and writing love letters!

Science!
Using the scientific method and journals, young
learners will be engaged in hands-on, real world
science exploration and activities. We will explore
earth and physical science. In these units, we will
discuss states of matter by using different experiments
(one of which we will watch the state of matter change
with heat, and then eat it!). Math and reading skills
are naturally integrated in these fun science
experiments!

Math:  Capacity and Measurement, money.
Young Learners are engaged in hands-on, real world activities in large
groups, small groups and centers. In the winter, we will continue reinforcing
the concepts from the fall, and also concentrating specifically on capacity and
measurement. We will decide which containers would hold the least , most ,
same amounts of water, and estimate how many smaller containers would fit
in a larger container. Concepts such as part and whole come alive while
fractions happen during cooking, measuring and money activities! We will
also explore measurement of things big and small in our environment, as well
as try to answer some questions such as, “How important is accurately
measuring your ingredients when cooking?”.

Young Learners Spring!
Science:
Using the scientific method and journals, young
learners will be engaged in hands-on, real world
science exploration and activities. exploring space and
simple machines. We will eat the moon phases, and
practice our math skills by measuring the distance from
Earth,to all of the planets in the solar system! We play
around with Force and Motion using simple machines built
with legos, explore push and pull and look into magnetic
behavior.
Literature & Science!
Integrating Literature with Math and Science, we will build on our phonetic awareness
skills, practice sounding out words, and using journals to write and reinforce word recognition.
We’ll read about an author who imagined that dinosaurs came back, and all the cool and useful
ways they would be part of life!
Want to be the life of the party? We are going to learn some hilarious jokes and riddles,
and practice letter formation by creating a book of jokes! FYI-I’m a terrible practical joker, so
while feeling so hilarious we will learn some practical jokes that are actually science
experiments, like elephant toothpaste! Just in time for April 1!

Math:   Numbers and Number Sense, Time, Addition and Subtraction
Young Learners are engaged in hands-on, real world activities in large
groups, small groups and centers. . In the spring, we will continue to
reinforce number sense, recognizing and writing 1-20, addition and
subtraction up to 10 friends. We will explore the concept of telling time,
which will also reinforce our knowledge of parts, whole, skip counting,
recognition of sets , etc...The last day of class we will celebrate Big Small
Day, everything will be really big or really small as we practice counting to
100 by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s with number lines, ten frames and white boards.
