This is a class designed to teach writing, reading comprehension and math through the art of games! In this class students will use games as a way to learn how to write expository text and learn the math skills of probability, logical thinking, problem solving and carteisan coodernate graphing. We will play different games and study the purpose of the games as well as objectives.
In the first part of the class, we will study and play games with dice and look at the probability of favorable outcomes. Students will then create a game that uses this strategy that employs dice using the outcomes as a determiner on winning or losing.
In the second section we will study games with spinners both fair and unfair, playing games such as “Appleseed”, again each student will create a spinner game. The following sections will be games with cards, logical thinking games such as “Don’t Slip on the Banana Peel” , and Co-ordinate games like “Battleship”. Each student will design, write, and create an original game for the final project using their choice of strategy. We will also be practicing writing expository text through How To directions as a small group and individually, as well as reading and following directions using small projects.
The focus of the class will be expository writing, reading comprehension by following directions, logical thinking and strategy.
