Walk for Huck Fundraiser and Family Picnic FAQs
The Huck Parent Committee is excited to continue our fundraising campaign this year with our second big event, the Walk for Huck Fundraiser and Family Picnic! Please read on for answers to (most of) your questions about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it!
Why does Huck need to fundraise? How much do we need to raise?
HuckleBerry is a 501c3 non-profit, and like all non-profits, maintains its operating budget with a combination of fees for services and fundraising. Huck relies on fundraising to keep class fees affordable and the quality high. Our October Homecoming event raised $10,000 of our $21,000 goal for this school year. Our goal for the Walk for Huck is to raise the remaining $11,000.
What is the Walk for Huck and Family Picnic?
On Saturday May 13th, the entire Huck community (Simi and Valencia) are invited to gather at Hansen Dam Recreation Area in Lakeview Terrace from 10am-2pm. The kids will walk a distance that they set to honor their commitment, and after the walk, we will all have a picnic that includes music and old fashioned games!
Who can participate in this fundraiser?
We need all Huck families to participate so that we can reach our goal. Even small donations will make a big impact when added up.
How will the money be raised?
We are asking each Huck family to send an email to family and friends asking for donations, and make a donation themselves if they are able. If your child(ren) is/are able to participate in the event on May 13, then they can ask family and friends to sponsor their walk and commit to walking a certain distance. We’ll be using an online fundraising website to make it easy to collect donations. If the online fundraising doesn’t work for some of our families, we will have packets at the front desk of each location with a letter from Huck on what we’re doing and why, with 10 envelopes that you can mail out to your family and friends! We’re asking each family to set a minimum goal of $250. All donations are tax-deductible.
What if my family can’t make it to the event on May 13?
No problem! Your family can still request donations, but you’ll just leave out the sponsorship message.
Are there prizes?
Yes! For every $100 a family raises, it will earn a ticket to be included in a drawing with some great prizes, including a free Huck class! Kids will also receive a free Huck Buck for use at the Huck snack basket for every $100 they raise!
What can I do to help?
Glad you asked! We need a lot of volunteers to make his happen, from helping with the activities, to getting prizes donated, to supervising the kids and handing out water as they walk. If you can volunteer either on May 13 or in the planning stage, please contact Amy Atlas.
I want to help Huck, but I don’t feel confident or comfortable with fundraising. How do I get people to donate?
There are many strategies we can all use to provide opportunities for our friends and family to give. We’ll be providing message templates and other ideas to help you.
What’s the first step?
We will provide you with detailed instructions so you can get registered with our online fundraising site, create your family’s webpage, and send an email with a link to that page to your friends and family.
What if I need help?
We are here to assist you and make this a very successful fundraiser and event. You can reach out to on the Valencia Parent Committee at (HuckParentsValencia@gmail.com) or Sharon Ashford (email@example.com ) at our Simi site if you have questions or need support.
Thanks in advance for your participation and we look forward to seeing you on May 13 for a great time!
