Who was the President during the Great Depression? WWI? The Louisianna Purchase? Knowing how each of President's handled each pivotal issue faced by America helps kids put Presidents and events into an order that makes sense. In this class we will explore the American President throughout US History; the issues he faced and how his decisions influenced his successors. We'll do lots of hands-on activities surrounding the main issues for each Presidency so that students will be able to tie together events and people. Instead of memorizing dates and trivial facts (although we will include some fun ones!), the students will be able to -- by the end of the semester -- name the Presidents based on the events that unfolded during his term in office.
This class is designed to last one year. In our Fall session we will learn about The Founding Fathers and Sons, George Washington through Franklin Pierce. In the Winter we will cover The Civil War Years; Buchanon through McKinley and in the Spring we will cover The New Century; Teddy Roosevelt through President Obama.
