Student Council at Huck focuses on developing Leadership and Philanthropy skills. Leadership skills we work on include communicating (a big one!), taking responsibility for your actions, and actually being in action to achieve what you want to achieve, making good and sometimes difficult decisions, prioritizing and scheduling skills, seeking to understand others, and so many more. We try to practice these skills in the context of the events that are being planned, from large scale events like the Literacy Festivals & Relay for Life to small scale events like Snack Basket and Pizza Week, kids have an opportunity to practice both real life tactical leadership skills like leading an effective meeting to running an entire community event.
This year all kids will be responsible for participating in a minimum of 10 hours of community service. The service can be in any area that is inspiring to them!
We will also be incorporating College Prep as part of this class; from knowledge about testing, entrance exams and the college essay to scholarships, awards, the digital portfolio and more, kids will start to be immersed in the task of planning for their college years. Please have kids bring their laptops or tablets to be working in class!
