All New Science Adventures! Science can be super fun when we get our bodies involved! That’s the objective of this class – to get ourselves to be a part of the study! We’ll start off with learning the scientific method, which we will practice all year long. Let’s learn to Observe, do a little Research, make a Hypothesis, do a Test, look at our Results and see if we guessed right!
WINTER QUARTER - BODY WORKS!
this quarter we learn all about our own bodies! We'll go through all the major systems of our bodies and do fun experiments to learn how our bodies work!
Week 1 & 2 - All About Our Circulatory System! We'll create the lungs, hear and body cells from clay and connect the blood vessels with pipe cleaners. We'll read about the exchange of oxygen for carbon dioxide, find our breathing rates, use a balloon to learn how the heart beats and so much more!
Week 3 - Our Digestive System! We'll simulate digestion using a balloon, oil, vinegar and bread! We'll see the differences between mechanical and Chemical digestion and draw pictures in our Body Journal!
Week 4 & 5 - Our muscular system! We'll learn about the 6 major muscle groups, test our own strength, create a model of the arm muscle and more!
Week 6 - Our Nervous System! We'll make a clay model of our brain an dplay a fun game called The Control Center to learn how the brain sends signals to our body.
Week 7 - Our Respiratory System! We'll test how fast we breathe at rest and at play! We'll model our lungs, and draw pictures of the system in our journals!
Week 8: Our Skeletal System! We'll make our own skeleton with bones and labdels, learn how joints work, math an x-ray to a bone and more! As always, we'll update our body works journal to help us remember what we learned!
Week 9: Our Senses! We'll learn about all 5 of our senses with fun experiments!
Week 10: It's Anatomy Bingo Day!
Spring Quarter: Spring is the perfect time to learn about baby animals, their habitats and how they survive their childhood! We’ll only be looking at happy stories of survival as we look at baby bears and their small families and how they learn to survive in the wild. Where do they sleep and what do they eat? How good are their 5 senses? Each week we’ll study a different animal by watching a short film, looking at books, and making our own Animal Book with pictures, fun facts and more! Come learn all about baby animals and their habitats!
Fall: Our first suite of experiments will deal with what types of things sink and what types of things float? We’ll learn about water displacement, and then play with boats and experiment will making them float, learn how water can be so strong it can carve through the earth, learn about clouds, rain and do an art project on the water cycle, make a tornado in a bottle, and so much more! Water is one of the most important parts of LIFE, so we’ll spend our first quarter learning all about the properties of water!
