In the second trimester of this year-long course we will be learning math skills such as geometry, multiplication, and division. We will be applying our previously gained understandings of measurement to plan vacations! While planning our snowman’s vacation we will be learning how to read data, create graphs, set up/work with a budget, record keeping, time keeping and scheduling, as well as measuring distance by inches. We will add/subtract within 1,000, measure using inches and centimeters and create a skilled plan for our Snowman’s vacation! We'll buy clothes for each vacation day and practice multiplication, write & apply fractions, add and subtract time for our scheduling and more!
Parents can use any at home curriculum to reinforce concepts generally found in the 3rd – 5th grades. There will be homework packets sent home each week to further reinforce that week’s lesson.
By this trimester I am hoping that the students will be able to efficiently tackle two math projects; we have run a restaurant and manage a sports team. These projects will encompass the same concepts previously learned to strengthen each student’s understanding of time, multiplication, addition, measurement, subtraction, budgeting and more. Real Life Math projects help kids to learn and practice core math skills in ways that helps them understand the relevance of math!
