Because we start our homework in class, this homework time is many times reduced.
The concepts you learn in Pre Algebra are the ones you will use for life! Luckily, they are easily learned and reinforced by a variety of games and activities. In this class we will learn a new skill, practice it in class and then reinforce it with a game! Although this class will cover all of the prealgebra concepts, we will focus on the ones that trip up the most students; negative integer operations, fraction work, exponents and which terms can and cannot be combined. Without visual aids, it is sometimes difficult for kids to remember which terms can be combined through addition and subtraction, but once they "see" the differences between variables with and without exponents, the math becomes easy. Playing matching games, spoons, our own version of bingo and more just reinforces the math concepts because the kids are repeatedly doing the math in their head. It's so much more fun than a worksheet!
