- Chinese Proverb.
This is the mission statement of this class. In this class, the science strand of physical science will be the springboard to teach all about matter; integrating science, math and reading/language arts. Students will learn about their physical world by conducting experiments and hands-on activities. They will learn to use and make thermometers, construct shadow puppets to act out reader’s theater , make life size shadows to learn about the movement of the sun, make molecules, make a color wheel and study the light spectrum using prisms and flashlights, investigate sound, investigate and make models of the human ear and eye, create optical illusions and so much more. Math activities include measuring, making numeration snakes, fraction ice cream sundaes, learning multiplication by playing several games that teach multiplication concepts, such as sets, number lines and arrays, making 3-D shapes and dipping them in soap bubbles, making 3-D mobiles, as well as playing math games. This is a very busy, active class where students will be engaged in their learning! All Reading will be related to concepts being learned in science, utilizing expository books and passages while concentrating on comprehension skills and strategies. Please join me for lots of fun and learning!
