Science at Huck!
The objective of SCIENCE is to
teach children to wonder and test out ideas
build strong observation skills
understand cause and effect relationships
build strong science literacy
and to fall in love with the world around them
Our core offering for this age is
Designed as a 3 year rotation, this class covers 9 science subjects. Your child can take Science Explorers for 3 years, and never repeat a subject!
Series 1: Light & Energy, Trees & Weather, Animal Habitats & Classification
Series 2: Sound & Other Waves, Spinning Earth, Animal and Plant Defenses
Series 3: Properties and more, Changing Earth & Sea, Living Systems

As home educators, we have lots of choices, and science instruction is included in that! At Huck, we know that Science can be difficult and MESSY to teach at home. We offer LOTS of fabulous science classes.
Don't feel compelled to restrict your child's science experiences to the standards for each age! It doesn't matter if children learn about weather at age 6 or age 8! What matters most is that your child is given opportunities to explore the world around them, indulge in their favorite science subjects, and be exposed to additional science subjects.

Social Studies at Huck!
The objective of Social Studies is to
learn about cause and effect within societies, and how the past affects our future
understand how we got to where we are
learn the cultural literacy of our world
test out new ideas
see that impact that everyday people with a passion can make on the world
We provide two Social Studies tracks at Huck;
I. Story of the World - A Classical Approach to History
Designed as a 4 year rotation, this class covers the Ancients through Modern Times. You can join into this class at any time!
Year 1: The Ancients (ages 6-8)
Year 2: The Middle Ages (ages 6-9)
Year 3: Early Modern Times (ages 7-9)
Year 4: The Modern Age (Ages 8-10)
II. Traditional Track
Designed as a 4 year rotation, this suite of classes follows the more traditional approach to Social Studies instruction
Year I: Beginning Geography/Many People Make My Country / Icons of the United States (ages 6-9)
Year 2: US History! Overview of US History from Native Americans through the formation of our country, People Who Made A Difference - a multi-cultural investigation of the people who have shaped our nation. (ages 6-9)
Year 3: California History (ages 8-11)
