Musical Beginnings is designed to introduce children to the world of music through playful, process based experiences, to nurture a life long enjoyment of music, and to lay a solid musical foundation. Concepts introduced will include rhythm and steady beat, singing and matching pitch, simple theory and notation, ensemble singing and playing, instrument families, focused listening, various musical styles, composition/improvisation, playing rhythm instruments and the glockenspiel (as an introduction to keyboard-based instruments), as well as some music history. We will be doing serious learning through fun games, songs, movement, and playing.
Erin Guiltner is a flutist and early childhood music specialist. She studied Suzuki violin as a child, then switched to flute at age 11. She earned her Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance from Oklahoma City University, where she also studied voice, piano and saxophone. After discovering the joy of teaching young children, she completed Kindermusik training and became a licensed Kindermusik educator, operating studios in Orlando, FL, and Norman, OK. She has performed as a freelance musician, taught private flute lessons, and taught music classes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, elementary ages and parents, as well as serving as musical director for several high school productions. Erin currently serves as the Director of Children's Ministries for Heart of the Canyons Church, and home schools her 4 children, ages 1-6.
