This is a math games class for older students, designed to strengthen and solidify math skills. This class will be based on RightStartMath card games, recipient of First Place "Excellence in Education" 2014 award from the Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
This unique hands-on program de-emphasizes counting, uses visualization of quantities and provides strategies (visual pictures) for learning the facts. Students will be practicing mental math and quick recall of basic addition, subtraction, skip counting, factoring, division and fractions, and logic, all in an environment of fun solitary and group games. Understanding and problem solving are emphasized throughout the program.
Note: this class is not to teach concepts, but is to strengthen the recall of facts and mathematical concepts. Therefore, students are required to understand how to add, subtract and be familiar with multiplication and division, before enrolling. Also, this class will be skewed towards the enjoyment of older students.
