Language Arts for Young Learners
Online in the Fall - Kit Provided!
In this class students will enhance their reading comprehension skills through reading Caldecott Medal winning books, such as, “Cat in the Hat," “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Hop on Pop” for rhyming and alliteration. We will read one to two stories each week in class. We will have engaging class discussions on why the story was important, create story re-tells through the use of puppets, stuffed animals or dolls you have at home, as this is an online class. We will use storyboards (copies will be in your kit) for the students to make up their own stories, make predictions on what will happen next as we read a story, and they will also write (or draw!) their own endings to stories! Students will create their own stories to share with the class, using puppets, stuffed animals or dolls you have at home, or a storyboard, or any other ways of creating a shared story! During this time they will start to become experts at figuring out plot and conflict, and of course, conflict resolution! Students will also learn the concepts of print: how to read a book, the cover, title page, and what the author and illustrator do in a book. Come and join us for this fun and gentle class in Language Arts!
