Ages:   8-12

NO MATERIAL FEES!   MATERIAL FEES ARE EMBEDDED IN THE CLASS PRICE!

Class Price:

Spring:  10 weeks:  $295 or $285 if taking 2 or more classes

Note:   Online class will include lessons in permaculture!   Grow your own microgreens, make compost and more!

Prerequisites:

While the teacher is there to answer questions, students are expected to be able to work in small teams to figure out why their experiement may not be working as designed!   That is part of being a scientist or an engineer, to use the information that you have and to try different strategies to make your experiment work!   Because of that, the class is largely designed to be a trial and error experience.    Making mistakes is good here - it teaches the student how things DON'T work, and helps them to know what not to try.

Class Description:

Come learn useful ways to make a positive difference in the world by being energy conscious.  We will learn how alternative energy can be produced and used while designing and building.   In this class, we will largely be learning by doing as we create several energy related projects.    Some projects that may be covered are:

  • simple circuits

  • manual generators/LED torches (like crank flashlights)

  • fruit/vegetable batteries

  • wind turbines

  • hydro-ponic and/or aqua-ponic systems

  • solar powered cars/lights/etc

  • solar cookers

  • hydro powered vehicles

  • We will also have an extra project designed and created by this class that will show off our learning for this quarter!

Please note that a lot of this class is project based and students will need to be able to construct many items by using directions provided from kits. Critical thinking skills developed here will help them redesign projects to make their Green Science projects work.

This class is a precursor to our Spring quarter class - making an Eco Village.   In that class we will use all of the energy conscious ideas from this class and take it a step further by making an Eco Village!
