Come travel the world... of food! Food is the one thing that connects people globally. We all eat, we all have to eat and we all love to eat. We may not all speak the same language throughout the world but we all have food in common. You don't have to pack your bags for these cooking adventures. Each week, we’ll stamp our passports and explore wonderful cuisines from around the globe! Through the delicious lens of cooking, our lessons emphasize geography, culture, language, history, and music! Students learn fundamental culinary skills and nutrition education while exploring their creativity.
Weeks 1 - 5: Immigration - Coming to America (China, Ireland, Italy) We will begin our unit on immigration. Starting with an overview of immigration, explaining WHY people immigrated and continue to immigrate, and highlight three separate areas of immigrants; Ireland, Germany, and China. Students will learn where these countries are, traditions and recipes and have an understanding on why they chose to leave their countries for America. We'll be making Irish Soda Bread, Wonton Wrappers, Grunkohl mit Kartoffeln, Pfeffernusse (Spice Cookies) and more!
Weeks 6-10: We'll move to Puerto Rico to experience their wonderful Coconut Kisses & Plantain Chips before we move far away to Russia, India & Egypt! Truly we will travel the world, learning a bit about the culture and geography of each place as we cook up a cultural experience of each location!
