Did you ever wonder what makes a light bulb light up? What makes a car go? What keeps an airplane in the sky? Everyday, all around us, the world is filled with fantastic wonders just waiting to be discovered.
In this course we’re going to get our hands dirty by digging into the wonders of the physical world. Every class includes an experiment, lab activity, or project designed to allow students to explore the foundational principles of physical science while having fun at the same time.
Throughout the course of the year, students will explore various phenomena of the universe including forces, machines, motion, energy, electricity, magnetism, sound, light, density, and buoyancy. Students will also study general chemistry concepts including the structure of matter, the periodic table, chemical bonds and reactions, mixtures and compounds, and the chemistry of living systems. Finally, students will learn the fundamental physics concepts of the earth and solar system.
Each of our budding scientists will keep their own lab book where they log the course of their scientific inquiries. They’ll develop a solid understanding of the scientific method while also discovering some of the most amazing scientific phenomena that make up our daily lives. Our 10 projects include our mini house where we explore Ohm's Law, Light Emitting Diodes, Circuits, Electrical Engineering, Static Electricity, Acoustics, Lumens and so much more! In our circuits unit we'll explore parallel and series circuits, switches, conductors, insulator, resistors, voltake, open and closed circuits and more! Each of our larger projects will enable us to explore our concepts more deeply, and have a fabulous science experiment to take home and explore more deeply!
