Come play games, work on activities, and create projects that help mathematicians learn crucial math skills normally covered for 2nd and 3rd graders. We’ll start each day with a Number of the Day activity that reviews many math skills. Then onto a hands-on lesson that will demonstrate the math concept for the day. We’ll play games to help memorize our addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. Projects will be used to help understand many of the concepts being taught, like adding and subtracting numbers with and without regrouping within 1000. We will also cover concepts of place value and skip counting to quickly and easily multiply any one digit whole number by 10 and then learn division facts by understanding the relationship with each multiplication fact. We’ll show and understand that fractions are equal parts of a whole, adding fractions with a common denominator, recognize and place shapes into categories depending on their attributes, find perimeters and area of plane shapes, and more!
While this class will cover many concepts through hands on activiies and games, we will focus on these main concepts in each quarter.
Fall quarter main concepts: Place Value, Adding & Subtracting 2-4 digit numbers with and without grouping
Winter quarter main concepts: Skip Counting, Multiplication and Division
Spring quarter main concepts: Geometry and Fractions
