Elective: Ethics & Moral Philosophy

Ethics is defined as the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation. But it could be argued that Ethics is ultimately the study of what makes us human. In this course, we will travel through history, learning different philosophies of ethics, including but not limited to Kantianism, Existentialism, and Utilitarianism – where we unpack the famous Trolley Dilemma! -- and testing what we’ve learned through real-world ethical dilemmas. We will also read Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search For Meaning.
Students will be expected to write, participate in discussions, and demonstrate their knowledge with quizzes and a final exam.
