Fall - The Waterworks!
Taking a shower, drinking water from a public fountain, using water in our kitchen - what do these all have in common? Let’s get on the Magic School Bus with Mrs. Frizzle to learn all about water; HOW we get clean water to our kitchens and public bathrooms, how much water is in people, how much water is on the earth and in the air, how are clouds made, the entire water cycle, and how to test water quality! Students and I will learn and apply the steps involved in our city’s water treatment process. We will learn about coagulation and sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. We will create a model of the waterworks that occurs in our city, make a model cloud and an art project about the different types of clouds. We will learn how to make clean water from dirty water. Students will not only enjoy learning HOW we get water into our homes, but they will gain an appreciation and increased value for the water they drink and shower under. This will hopefully bring more awareness to how much water we use and how we much we waste.
