DOing Fractions, Graphs, Analysis and more!
Teacher: Heidi Marino
Come take part in a math class where students can participate in games and activities while learning important math concepts. This class offers engaging lessons and activities to stimulate a student’s knowledge of math. Some of the 3rd and 4th grade math concepts we will be covering are multiplication/division, fractions/decimals, graphs, data analysis (mean, range, mode), perimeter and area. We will make arrays, use repeated addition and illustrate equal groups to show what multiplication is along with playing “Around the World” and “War” to practice multiplication facts. To understand perimeter and area we will write our names using square centimeter graph paper and then find the perimeter and area of all the letters in our name. Using Skittles we will discover the statistical concepts of mean, median and mode by figuring out the average number of candies in a bag, which color occurs most often and the range of numbers of candies in the bags. These are just some of the activities/games we will encounter in this class. The students will receive guided instruction and plenty of hands-on learning in this class. So come and be a part of this class and Let’s “Do” Math!
Note: Concepts covered in this class correlate to 3rd and 4th grade skills.
Heidi Marino has been an educator since 1992 with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies. She received her teaching credential from Chapman University and her favorite subject to teach is math! She loves coming up with hands on activities that are both fun and deeply educational. With repetition, the games become a fun way to master the sometimes elusive skills in multiplication, division, fractions and so much more!
