Quest in Science is proud to once again work with Huckleberry in providing fun, hands-on science by offering this course on Biomes, Ecosystems and Insects. This is a two-part course that first emphasizes a broad look at biomes and ecosystems and then, a more specific study of insects. During the first six weeks, students will be lead through an adventure of the Earth’s various biomes and an exploration into the relationship between physical environment and animal survival. We study grasslands, desert, tundra, forests and wetlands and the plant and animal life in each region. We learn that adaptations and biodiversity in an environment are essential for existence. We examine how environmental changes, such as temperature and resource availability, affect ecosystems and impact organisms.
The second half of this course is the study of Insects. We learn how to correctly identify an insect by examining various characteristics. We investigate the world through the eyes and mouths of insects. We come to understand the many benefits insects bring to our world.
We believe in a fun, hands-on approach to all our lessons. This course will include: beaver dress-up day, owl pellet dissection, competitive owl games, kaleidoscope bug- goggles, mealworm adoption and much, much more!
