This class is designed for creativity and fun! New projects every semester!
The most important aspect of art for young students is discovery, exploration, and individual expression. This class will offer students lots of hands on activities!
Week 1 & 2: Introduction to drawing and adding color using a step-by-step fun shapes approach. Introduction to outlining techniques for line and form with animals. Introduction to shading with oil pastels.
Week 3 & 4: Drawing development and creating your own character design with markers. Starring them in a storyboard and shading with color pencils like the cartoonist Schultz did with Snoopy. Show or tell your character’s story.
Week 5 & 6:: Get A Still Life! Make a tone chart in charcoal. Make a realistic drawing from life objects like pumpkins or a picture of life objects that shows light and shadow in charcoal or oil pastels. Can choose to apply technique to Halloween themed tone drawings.
Week 7:: Field Trip teacher led and guided art tour of our own grounds! Learning to see and observe the outside world and drawing in a sketchbook like the Impressionistic Master Artists do. Bring back your studies back to the classroom and finish in color pencils.
Week 8, 9, 10: Watercolor world whirl. Paint a watercolor wheel. Choose from your sketchbook or simple flowers or Thanksgiving themes or Fall landscapes to draw and paint in watercolor pencils or watercolors or even mixed media.
