Surrealism, Post-Impressionism
and Pop Art

(10 weeks on each topic)

We will focus on a few great artists of the late 19th and early 20th Century: Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso and a few of the most popular Pop Artists. Other famous artists will also be reviewed to give students and understanding of the movement. Students will create works on paper using colored pencils, oil pastels and watercolor. We will also do some acrylic painting on canvas.

In our study on Pop Art, learners will be exposed to reproduction methods such as lithography, serigraphy and other printing methods. In this High School class, students can either take the class as an elective or for credit. If taken for credit, they will need to write two short essays and be required to do about 3 hours of homework a week.

If students wish to purchase the higher quality colored pencils by Prismacolor, they should buy these on their own.
