Spring: 10 weeks: $280 or $270 if taking 2 or more classes
New students will be charged an extra $5 for curriculum related materials.
Homework: Required. Plan on at least 2 hours / week on individual projects, but students many times want to spend more time on their art!
Students passionate about the fine arts will have the opportunity to develop their drawing, painting, and design skills in greater depth. We will also learn about the graphic arts, product design, and the study of portrait & figure drawing, focusing & mastering one area per session. Students will end up creating an art project based on their own interests.
Winter Session Focus: Still Life Studies (design, shape, color, shadow, light, reflection) The best way to train the artistic eye is to draw or paint from still life. We will set up two or three still life subjects such as a fruit bowl, stuffed animals, and objects like tea kettles or flowers to draw and paint from. Students will also work on one or two original pieces of their choosing. For homework there will be weekly sketchbook assignments. These assignments may ask students to draw objects from home, nature, and even imagination. Spring Session Focus: Landscape Studies (composition, perspective, color harmony) In the fall of 2019, the class learned about drawing the portrait, body proportions, sketching techniques, and some color theory. The students also worked on original art of their own including a car, flowers, animals, and tropical fish. Different art mediums were introduced like gouache and nontoxic water soluble oils. They also created art with watercolors, pastels, and colored pencils. The class kept up a sketchbook as well.
