Students will explore the life, career and portrait creations of an important artists of the 20th century: Amedeo Modigliani.
Students will create their own masterpiece inspired by the elongated figures, asymmetrical compositions and simple but monumental use of line presence in Modigliani’s portrait paintings. To do that, students will first practice by copying the portrait and then color in with oil pastels.
To be ready to color Modigliani’s inspired art piece, students will review color theory. They will create a Sunflower Color Wheel for reference of primary and secondary colors while having fun!
Students will complete activities such as a Fabric Mosaics, designed to introduce them to the process and layout design of a traditional Mosaic. This lesson is intended to encourage the recognition of negative space, alteration patterns, contrasting colors as well as elements of the design process.
To understand the emotional impact that colors have while creating art, students will choose between warm or cold color palette to create their art piece. They will first sketch their composition (Volkswagen Van design) and then color it in.
As a final project, students will be creating Alien Mask’s with materials like foam and decorations.
