What a fun DOING and CREATING class! The history of art and artists is a part of good general education and supports students' creativity and critical thinking skills!
This hands-on class allows young students to truly experience the world of art. Each week they will learn about a different artist, including stories about the artists, the period during which the artist lived, type of art, famous artworks and the impact they made on art that carries through to today. Students will use a variety of media such as pencils, ink, pastels, watercolors, clay and even Sharpies to create works of art in the style of each artist.
Some of the artists they will learn about include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.
By the end of the semester, each student will receive a notebook of their art projects. They will have a deep understanding of the history and influence of each artist.
