American History Through Improv!
Teachers: Cy Brown, Yvette Senat, Rebekah Czarnecki
Fee: $315 for 16 weeks or $78.75 / month for 4 months
Mat Fee: $25
Homework: Yes! Students will need to do a bit of research on the event and/or characters to help prepare their improvisations! There is no writing requirement.
Forget heavy textbooks, tedious tests and lists of dates. American History comes alive when you get to BE the characters! Each week students will hear a story of adventure, intrigue, inventions, and improbable feats. Using fun and easy improvisation basics, they will jump up on their feet and act out these stories, understanding history from the point of view of the people that lived it. Explore history in more exciting and fulfilling way!
See the revolutionary war through the eyes of James Armistead, escaped slave and patriot, or travel through enemy lines as Sara Emma Edmonds, an early female doctor and Civil War Spy! Be part of Ma Barker's band of old-west outlaws or be on the side of the law as Bass Reeves the "real lone ranger." Try out your clowning, lion-taming or contortion skills as one of P.T. Barnum's main attractions in the craze of the American Circus. We will tackle a new subject each week in a period spanning from colonization to World War II.
In our last weeks, we will take our most hilarious, touching, and exciting scenes and put them together for an informal showcase on Huck Exhibition night.
So join us as we Improv through American History!
